Unit Overview

The Internationalisation and Convocation Unit (ICU) is a specialized department within a university that focuses on enhancing the institution's global presence and managing alumni relations. The unit aims to foster international partnerships, promote student and faculty exchanges, and engage alumni in meaningful ways to support the university's mission and vision.

Mission

To enhance the global presence and engagement of the university by fostering international collaborations, supporting the international student community, and organizing convocation events that celebrate academic achievements and promote alumni relations.

General Unit Functions

  1. International Partnerships and Collaborations:

    • Develop and manage partnerships with international universities, research institutions, and organizations.
    • Facilitate joint research projects, academic collaborations, and dual degree programs.
    • Organize international conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  2. Student and Faculty Exchange Programs:

    • Coordinate inbound and outbound exchange programs for students and faculty.
    • Provide support for international students, including orientation, accommodation, and integration services.
    • Promote and manage study abroad programs and internships.
  3. Alumni Relations:

    • Maintain a comprehensive alumni database and manage alumni communications.
    • Organize alumni events, reunions, and networking opportunities.
    • Develop initiatives to engage alumni in mentoring, fundraising, and volunteer activities.
  4. International Student Recruitment and Admissions:

    • Develop and implement strategies to attract international students.
    • Manage the admissions process for international applicants.
    • Provide information and support regarding visas, scholarships, and financial aid.
  5. Cultural and Social Integration:

    • Organize cultural exchange programs and activities to promote cross-cultural understanding.
    • Support international students in adapting to the local culture and academic environment.
    • Foster a welcoming and inclusive campus community.
  6. Global Marketing and Communication:

    • Promote the university's programs, achievements, and opportunities on a global scale.
    • Manage the university's international online presence, including website and social media.
    • Develop marketing materials and campaigns targeting international audiences.
  7. Policy Development and Compliance:

    • Develop policies and guidelines for internationalization efforts.
    • Ensure compliance with international education standards and regulations.
    • Monitor and report on the progress and impact of internationalization initiatives.
  8. Funding and Grants:

    • Identify and apply for grants and funding opportunities to support international projects.
    • Manage financial resources allocated for internationalization activities.
    • Collaborate with international donors and funding agencies.

By fulfilling these functions, the University Internationalisation and Convocation Unit plays a critical role in advancing the university's strategic goals and enhancing its global engagement and alumni relations.

Responsibilities of Internationalization Section

The section is led by the Coordinator and perform the following functions: a) Developing relevant policies, strategies and guidelines that promote and facilitate collaborations between MU and its partners and oversee their implementation; b) Keeping track of regional and global policy developments in higher education and disseminating them within MU. c) Serving as a liaison office for all MU foreign collaborations, administering and organizing them; d) Developing and maintaining an updated database of MU international students; e) Establishing and maintaining an accurate communication system with all collaborating institutions across the globe; f) Acting as a focal point for international students, staff, and visitors in need of assistance. g) Soliciting and coordinating strategic collaborations at local, regional and international levels; h) Providing strategic advice on collaborations and partnerships to MU; i) Soliciting for and disseminating collaborative opportunities such as research and innovation; staff mobility; summer schools; as well as students exchange programmes; j) Coordinating and facilitating all agreements between MU and regional and international partners. k) Monitoring and evaluating all Mzumbe University’s collaborative activities.

Responsibilities of Convocation Section

This section is led by the Coordinator and perform the following functions: a) Developing relevant policies, strategies and guidelines to support the convocation function of the University and oversee their implementation; b) Developing and Maintaining an updated database of MU alumni; c) Developing and supporting the initiatives of MU's alumni associations d) Developing, supporting, and sustaining MU’s alumni engagement programmes; e) Providing alumni with opportunities to participate in University development programs; 17 f) Developing a platform for continuing students of the University to learn more about the university's alumni programs. g) Monitoring and evaluating the University's convocation activities; h) Developing and maintaining an interactive website for alumni; i) Organizing the University's convocation activities; j) Creating and maintaining a reliable communication mechanism with all alumni; k) Functioning as the University convocation's secretariat.
