Dr. Idda Lyatonga Swai, PhD

Biography

Dr. Idda Lyatonga Swai is a Senior Lecturer and Acting Dean at the School of Public Administration and Management, Mzumbe University. She holds a Master’s from Erasmus University and a PhD from the University of Groningen. With over 15 years of experience in teaching governance, social science research, and gender studies, Dr. Swai has held key leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Local Governance and Management Studies and Chairperson of the Postgraduate Programme Committee. Dr. Swai has contributed to policy development with the President's Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, and the Ministry of Health. She has authored over 20 articles in international journals and has organized several international conferences on health monitoring, evaluation, and governance. Notably, she chaired the 1st International Conference on Governance, Leadership, and Socio-Economic Transformation in 2023. Her research focuses on gender, health systems, and governance. She is an Assistant Principal Investigator for the MEASURE Evaluation PRH Small Grants Program and co-investigator for the MWOTAJI and NISHATI projects. Dr. Swai also coordinates the ERASMUS PLUS Mobility Project, facilitating academic exchanges between Mzumbe University and the University of Groningen.
