Mzumbe University is proudly participating in the SADC-QA 2025–2026 Opening Conference, held in October 10, 2025, at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. The Regional Conference marks the launch of a two-year initiative project aiming at strengthening internal quality assurance (IQA) systems across Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) within the SADC region. The project, implemented under the TrainIQA programme, is jointly coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), Southern African Regional Universities Association (SARUA), and the University of Potsdam, as part of the DIES programme. It focuses on building institutional capacity, promoting peer learning, and enhancing collaboration among universities in quality assurance. Mzumbe University is represented by Dr. Lawrencia Mushi, Head of the Quality Assurance Unit and Dr. Lusekelo Kasongwa, Quality Assurance Coordinator from the Dar es Salaam Campus College. Both were competitively selected to participate in the TrainIQA – SADC-QA Training Course 2025–2026, demonstrating Mzumbe’s strong commitment in advancing academic quality and institutional development. During the conference, Dr. Kasongwa presented a project on improving the University’s internal quality assurance through enhanced units’ self-assessment and continuous improvement. The conference brought together universities across the SADC regions, including Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi, South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Zambia, Comoros, Botswana, Eswatini, and Mauritius. According to Dr. Mushi, the initiative provides an excellent platform for regional collaborations and knowledge sharing in quality assurance. “Our participation in this project enables Mzumbe University to strengthen its quality culture and align with international best practices in higher education,” she noted. The SADC-QA project is expected to last for a year, and participants are expected to implement transformative quality assurance initiatives within their respective institutions.
