Mzumbe University has once again demonstrated its strength in innovation and entrepreneurship after participating for the second time in the second cohort of the Youth Ignite Student Founders Fellowship Program, a prestigious initiative aimed at nurturing student-led startups and innovative solutions, held at Johari Rotana Hotel, Dar es Salaam, on 30 January 2026. The Youth Ignite Student Founders Fellowship Program is funded by the Funguo–UNDP Program and implemented in collaboration with StartHub and the Westerwelle Startup Haus Foundation. The initiative seeks to empower young innovators by providing mentorship, capacity building, and startup financing to enable sustainable youth-led enterprises The University was represented by three students who took part in a one-week intensive bootcamp where they participated on hands-on training designed to sharpen their entrepreneurial capabilities. The bootcamp focused on key areas as customer identification, idea validation, business model development, and pitching skills that equipped participants with practical tools to transform innovative ideas into viable enterprises. Mzumbe University students excelled in the final pitching session, showcasing creativity and entrepreneurial skill. Warda Fadhili, A student pursuing BBA in Innovation & Entrepreneurship Management won TZS 2 million to further develop her innovation By Palesa, while Abraham Emanueli Mmbaga, A Student pursuing BPA in Local Government Management secured TZS 4 million for his project Better Career, highlighting the strong social and economic relevance of his idea. Meanwhile,Baraka Chongera, A Student pursuing Bachelor of Science in ICT with Management also impressed the judges, earning valuable technical support and expert feedback to refine and scale his innovation RollaCall. The impressive performance by Mzumbe University students highlights the institution’s unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial excellence. Through sustained investment in mentorship and incubation support, the University continues to position students as competitive contributors to Tanzania’s innovation and development agenda. Throughout the program, the students were accompanied and guided by Dr. Irene Shubi Isibika, Mzumbe University’s Innovation and Incubation Coordinator, who provided consistent leadership, mentorship, and institutional support during both the bootcamp sessions and the final pitching process.
