MZUMBE UNIVERSITY EMPOWERS YOUTH ENTREPRENEURS THROUGH C4YET PROJECT AND LAUNCHES ALTERNATIVE FINANCING INITIATIVE

Mzumbe University, in collaboration with Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Danida Fellowship Centre – Research Grants and Learning and the Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO Tanzania), has officially concluded the Crowdfunding for Youth Entrepreneurship in Tanzania (C4YET) Project during a Closing and Results Dissemination Ceremony held on 26 March 2 026 at Morena Hotel in Morogoro. The event brought together key stakeholders from the partner institutions, youth entrepreneurs who benefited from the project, and PhD graduands supported under the initiative. Representatives from the Bank of Tanzania, President’s Office – Ministry of Youth Development and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology were also in attendance, highlighting the national importance of the project in promoting youth entrepreneurship and financial inclusion. The ceremony was officiated by the Director of Administration and Human Resources Management at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Lusius R. Mwenda who represented the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. Mwenda commended the project partners for introducing innovative financing approaches that support young entrepreneurs who face challenges in accessing local funding especially those with startup projects. He emphasized that crowdfunding provides new opportunities for youth to start and grow sustainable businesses. Speaking on behalf of the Mzumbe University Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Planning, Finance and Administration, Prof. Allen Mushi, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to using research and innovation to address societal challenges. He noted that the project reflects the University’s motto, “We learn for people’s development,” by empowering young people with practical skills and financial knowledge that contribute to national development. Earlier, the C4YET Project Coordinator from Mzumbe University, Dr. Nsubili Isaga, together with Prof. Lars Bo Jeppesen from Copenhagen Business School, presented the project achievements since 2019/2020 to the 2025/2026. The project covered nine regions across Tanzania and successfully built the capacity of more than 1,000 individuals. Over 600 youth received training on crowdfunding, and more than 200 young entrepreneurs were able to access financial support for their businesses. The project also supported three academic staff members to pursue doctoral studies, all of whom completed their PhD programmes within the project period. The Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Research and Consultancy, Prof. Idda Lyatonga Swai, expressed the University’s commitment to promoting sustainable development through research, innovation, and community engagement. The official closing of the project also marked the inauguration of the Centre for Alternative Financing, which will continue to support Tanzanian youth by providing knowledge and skills in innovative financing approaches to help them grow sustainable businesses.
