The Vice Chancellor of Mzumbe University, Prof. William Mwegoha, participated in a historic signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Higher Education Institutions in the country, held on May 29, 2026, at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam. During the event, Prof. Mwegoha witnessed more than 10 Higher Education Institutions officially engage into transformative development partnership. It is worth noting that Mzumbe University was the very first university in the country to pioneer this strategic collaboration with UNDP, setting a solid foundation for other academic institutions to follow. This partnership between UNDP and Higher Education Institutions aims to expand opportunities and build capacity across several priority areas, including Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship aiming at establishing and strengthening business incubation hubs to enable innovative students on campus to scale their ideas into viable enterprises that generate employment and self-employment. The partnership also aims at conducting impactful, problem-solving research geared towards addressing real-world societal challenges and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), collaborating on the integration of emerging technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and digital systems to enhance institutional performance and learning ecosystems also building academic and operational capacities in climate change mitigation, renewable energy, and environmental resource management. The MoU also foster on forging strategic bridges between universities and the industrial sector to ensure that academic curricula align with current and future labor market demands. The event featured moving testimonials from young beneficiaries of the UNDP Youth Ambassadors programme who shared inspiring insights into how the initiative has equipped them with leadership capabilities, digital skills, and global opportunities, opening doors for success across various professional and entrepreneurial landscapes. Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of Mzumbe University, Prof. William Mwegoha, assured the UNDP Resident Representative of Mzumbe’s unwavering commitment as a reliable partner.
