The 9th Annual Africa Interdisciplinary Health Conference (AfIHC) 2026 Pre-Conference Event is bringing together health professionals, researchers, policymakers, academics, innovators, and students to strengthen research capacity and advance health research, education, and practice across Africa. Held from 17th –18th August 2026 at the PSSSF Conference Hall, Millennium Tower, Kijitonyama, Dar es Salaam, the event precedes the main conference scheduled for 19th –21st August 2026. The conference is jointly organized by Mzumbe University and Push Aid Africa (PAAF), in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), USA, under the theme: “Bridging Disciplines to Address the Dual Burden of Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases in Africa.” The opening session was led by Prof. Idda Lyatonga Swai, Dean of the School of Public Administration and Management (SoPAM), Mzumbe University, and AfIHC Co-Chair, who emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary engagement in addressing Africa’s complex health challenges. Prof. Jerry John Ouner, AfIHC Secretary General and President and Chair of PAAF, also addressed participants and introduced the experts facilitating the sessions. Among the featured experts was Prof. Orlando Harris, Associate Professor of Nursing in the Department of Community Health Systems at the UCSF School of Nursing. Prof Harris facilitated a session on Qualitative Research Design, equipping participants with practical insights into qualitative research methods, research approaches and data collection techniques. On the other hand, Associate Professor at the UCSF School of Nursing and President of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care, Prof. Stella Bialous led a session on Manuscript Writing. Her session focused on the principles of scientific writing and the structure of a scientific manuscript, writing styles, publication of manuscripts and the choice of relevant and highly ranked journals. The Pre-Conference brought together 65 participants from Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, the USA, Rwanda, India, Uganda, Ghana and South Africa.
